Got to read "India Unbound"

Though I read a lot, my reading is mostly limited to fiction. Recently, there was a strand book sale going on in our office campus. I went there just to pass some time after a heavy lunch. And got my sight on this book named "India Unbound" by Gurucharan Das. It was supposed to be about the economic history of india, mostly post independence. I always used to keep stumbling on these economic jargons like licence raj, nehruvian socialism and how it was supposedly not good for India. I thought this book would give me a better perspective of all those and also give some account of the india economy in the last few decades. So, I got the book home and I should say, I had all what I expected to know about. It was quite an interesting book to read, though I couldn't complete it in one day, like I usually do it for a sci-fi or a thriller. The book starts off with an insight into the way the indian economic progress was happening and how the tatas and birlas had tapped the marked very early with their great entrepreneurship. It then reveals the economic policies of Nehru and how it had driven out many of the businessman out of India due to its huge taxation. The later part of the book is about how economic reforms were started off under the leadership of Narasimha Roa and the very well know finance ministry stalwarts. The author takes you through the economic history, and mixes some of his personal experiences along the way, making it sound a bit autobiographical. Overall, it was a cool read and very informative too. If anyone is interested, you could checkout this book here.
